Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: nonlinear systems @article{SonShimJoSeo03b, In this paper, the problem of output feedback passification for nonlinear systems is considered. Contrary to the conventional methodologies, our approach does not require the normal form representation of the system. Consequent advantages include that the system need not have a well-defined relative degree. In particular, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for output feedback passification without relying on the normal form. The proposed condition finally leads to an extension for a recent result when the system does have a normal form. |

Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: Asymptotic controllability @article{ShimTeel03, It is shown, for general nonlinear systems, that asymptotic controllability and observability are sufficient for semiglobal practical asymptotic stabilization by output feedback. Indeed, as previously shown in the literature, asymptotic controllability implies the existence of a (discontinuous in general) state feedback that, when implemented by sample and hold, is semiglobally practically stabilizing and robust to measurement disturbance; moreover, a weak form of observability allows reconstruction of the state with arbitrary precision in an arbitrarily short amount of time. So, we can build an output feedback that operates periodically in two modes: an initial, small fraction of a sampling period is used to estimate the state, and the remainder of the sampling period is used to implement the state feedback control using the state estimate. Our stabilization results are presented not only for compact target sets (e.g., the origin) but also for noncompact target sets. |

Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: Observability @article{ShimSeo03, We propose a recursive design scheme of a state observer for multiple-input-multiple-output, partly lower triangular nonlinear systems. The design begins from the subdynamics far from the output and propagates to the subdynamics close to the output, recalling the backstepping scheme for nonlinear control. The proposed class of systems is fairly general since it includes nonuniformly observable and/or detectable multioutput systems. Error convergence to zero is proved assuming boundedness of inputs a posteriori (i.e., after the design), which is preferable whereas most results in the literature assume the boundedness; a priori (i.e., before the design). A global observer is proposed with the global Lipschitz condition of the system, but without any restriction on the size of Lipschitz coefficient. The Lipschitz condition can be removed when a semiglobal observer is of interest. |

It is shown that the closed-loop nonlinear robot system can be rendered output strictly passive and the regulation of the system is achieved in the end. Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: static output feedback @article{SonShimParkSeo02, We present a state-space approach to the problem of designing a parallel feedforward compensator (PFC), which has the same dimension of the input i.e. input-dimensional, for a class of non-square linear systems such that the closed-loop system is strictly passive. For a non-minimum phase system or a system with high relative degree, passification of the system cannot be achieved by any other methodologies except by using a PFC. In our scheme, we first determine a squaring gain matrix and an additional dynamics that is connected to the system in a feedforward way, then a static passifying control law is designed. Consequently, the actual feedback controller will be the static control law combined with the feedforward dynamics. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the PFC are given by the static output feedback formulation, which enables to utilize linear matrix inequality (LMI). Since the proposed PFC is input-dimensional, our design procedure can be viewed as a solution to the low-order dynamic output feedback control problem in the literature. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by some numerical examples. |

Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: Observer design @article{JoSeo02, The observer design problem is studied for a class of single-output non-linear systems that are not necessarily uniformly observable. In the first part of this paper, the non-linear observer canonical form is generalized to the partial non-linear observer canonical form which is quite similar to the decomposition of a linear system into its observable and unobservable states. A necessary and sufficient condition is given for a non-linear system to be transformable into this canonical form by the change of coordinates. Based on this canonical form, a sufficient condition is given for the existence of observers. In the second part, a high gain observer for a class of non-linear systems that are not uniformly observable will be developed in order to relax the system structure of the partial non-linear observer canonical form. To this end, a new canonical form is proposed that generalizes the canonical form of uniform observability and a sufficient condition is provided based on the proposed canonical form. |

Observer construction for multi-output nonlinear systems is not a trivial extension of single output case, especially when the global error convergence is of interest. In this paper, we consider a class of systems in which the subsystem for each output has a triangular dependence on the states of that subsystem itself, and the overall system has a block triangular form for each subsystem. Hence, the contribution is to extend the results existing in the literature in that interconnections between the subsystems are allowed. The construction is based on the saturation of some estimates, which is originated by Khalil and Esfandiari for the use of semi-global output feedback control. |

Moreover, the proposed output feedback controller has the dynamic order n which is the same as the order of the plant. From any given state feedback, an explicit form of the overall controller is provided. A sufficient condition presented for the result is shown to be necessary and sufficient for regional uniform observability when the system is input affine. To be precise, the separation principle for non-linear systems are studied, which allows the design of the control law and the observer to be carried out independently. While the previous results assumed the existence of Lyapunov function for the observation error, we assume the existence of a state observer which asymptotically estimates the true state. As a matter of fact, it turns out that the latter condition is necessary for the former condition, but the converse is not true. The separation principle with the reduced order observer is also presented. Under the assumption that a non-linear system has asymptotically stable zero dynamics and is locally detectable, it is shown that the asymptotic output tracking by output feedback control can be achieved. |

Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: Event-triggered control, Output feedback, Robust stabilization @article{Behera20, In this article, the problem of robust output feedback stabilization of single-input single-output nonlinear systems is studied in the event-triggering framework. In this work, an event-triggered output feedback law based on a high-gain observer is constructed, which guarantees the stability of closed-loop system. First, the high-gain observer with a triggering scheme is designed to estimate the plant state in the presence of external disturbances subject to any satisfactory accuracy of the estimation error. The observer-based triggering mechanism decides the transmission of plant output to the observer by observing a certain event condition. Similarly, another triggering mechanism is designed using the estimated state of observer that triggers the control signal to be updated only when it is satisfied. Under this proposed event-triggering framework, the stability of closed-loop system is then analyzed. Here, we provide the simplified design technique, in which the high-gain parameter and the triggering thresholds can be selected independently to achieve any desired bound for the plant trajectory. The results are finally demonstrated through simulation of a numerical example. |
