GoGE Workshop on Optimization, Decision, and AI

A one-day online workshop dedicated to control and AI fields, called Group of Global Excellence (GoGE), was held via Zoom on this October. This workshop was organized by three laboratories of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seoul National University, which are CDSL, Nano/Micro Systems and Controls Laboratory, and Robot Learning Laboratory. It was supported by Brain Korea program of the Korean government.

Several students of CDSL participated as speakers in this workshop, introducing their results in research topics such as distributed quantile solver, distributed orientation estimation in formation control, and Gaussian process regression of dynamic systems. In addition, Dr. Jin Gyu Lee and Dr. Taekyoo Kim, both graduated CDSL and are now postdoctoral researchers, delivered presentations regarding nonlinear/nondifferentiable coupling on synchronization enforceability and plug-and-play distributed control, respectively.

The workshop also included three invited talks by internationally recognized professors who are experts in AI and control theory. Prof. Steven L. Brunton (University of Washington, USA) showed how machine learning can be used in nonlinear systems modeling and control. Prof. Zhan Li (Harbin Institute of Technology, China) also delivered a talk on applying reinforcement learning in UAV control problems. Finally, Prof. Claudio de Persis (University of Groningen, Netherlands) presented some formulas for data-driven control, whose objective is to design feedback controllers using data collected from dynamical systems. Overall, it was a great opportunity to share creative ideas on applying machine learning and data-based techniques to control engineering problems.
