Professor Wen-Hua Chen of the Faculty of Automotive Vehicles at Loughborough University, UK, visited CDSL. Prof. Chen has made significant contributions in developing nonlinear disturbance observer (DOB) design techniques, DOB-based control (DOBC) and model predictive control (MPC). He is also a Fellow of IEEE, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK.
Prof. Chen delivered a seminar titled “Disturbance Observer-Based Control (DOBC) and Recent Development”. In the seminar, he first briefly outlined the historical and technical backgrounds of DOBC, and then introduced some recent developments of DOBC including robust control design for uncertain nonlinear systems, multisource disturbance filtering and integration with MPC. Future research directions for further developing DOBC techniques and extending their applicability has also been discussed.
After the seminar, several students of CDSL introduced their recent research progress on DOB with Prof Chen. Hamin Chang and Donghyeon Song presented filter-embedded DOB and low-power internal model DOB, respectively. Professor Hyo-sang Shin at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) also participated in the discussion. We had productive time sharing each perspective of DOB.
We appreciate Prof. Chen for his insightful seminar and hope to collaborate in the near future.
